Eye Care EHR
In July the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) Medical Information Technology Committee (MITC) developed a list of important information to be included in electronic health records (EHR) for ophthalmologists. The list of features required in EHR systems is designed to deliver quality patient care, enhance communication between physicians, and meet the “meaningful use” standards required by President Obama’s 2009 healthcare reform laws.
According to an AAO press release, the Committee has included “17 ‘essential’ and six ‘desirable’ features in the areas of Clinical Documentation, Ophthalmic Vital Signs and Laboratory Studies, Medical and Surgical Management, and Ophthalmic Measurement and Imaging Devices.”
